Bears in the darkness

I had a dream last night. I found myself locked in a house, with a large polar bear walking about. I kept peaking through the windows to see if I could catch a glimpse of where he was, when suddenly I heard a snorting sound coming from the lounge area, I glanced around the corner only to be met with the stark reality that somehow he gained access and now was strolling through the lounge in my general direction. My heart began to beat at what seemed like a thousand beats a minute as I quickly but ever so silently locked the glass door separating us from each other. For a brief moment a sense of relief entered me as I locked the door but it was short lived when I realised I have trapped myself on the enclosed veranda. Window barred and no way out except through the same glass door I just locked.

I reared back in the hope to move out of sight, but at that very moment a gust of wind came sweeping through the windows pushing my sent towards the bear – he was on to me and charged the glass door. I stood there in fear, knowing that he could break through the glass door at any moment. He pounced up and down while making loud growling sounds.

I woke up!

Now awake and trying to find my way to the bathroom in the darkness of night, I found myself uneasy and anxious, not knowing why I dream these kinds of dreams. In the silence of my heart I asked God why do I have these dreams.

I then it came to me Philippians 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

I got back into bed and in spirit saw how I unlocked the glass door looked the bear in the eyes and reprimanded him in the name of Jesus to leave this place. He immediately turned around and began to run, but as he ran he became smaller and smaller until he was literally only a baby cub, harmless and helpless.

What have I gained from this? Luke 10:19 – I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

We have the authority to speak into situations that make us anxious. To cast away any situation that tries to steal our joy, our freedom, our peace.

Stand strong in to knowing that we are conquerors: Romans 8:37 – …in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

If we stand up and speak into situations, speak to the mountains in our lives with conviction and authority, the once feared situation becomes as meek as bear cubs.
